Congress Might Finally Put UFO Witnesses on Camera, and the Story They Would Tell Is Wild

Orange orbs swarm a military helicopter over dark mountains at night

The Night a Helicopter Met Something It Could Not Explain

Picture this. You are in a helicopter over the American West late at night, flying a routine mission near a sensitive military base. Then the sky starts doing things aircraft are not supposed to do. Glowing orange orbs pace your helicopter. Countless smaller objects swarm in every direction against the mountains. One oval-shaped orb, glowing orange, white, and yellow, drifts toward your aircraft and splits into two. You film it. You write it up. You are a senior official in the United States intelligence community, and none of this was supposed to be public.

That encounter happened in late 2025 near an undisclosed West Coast military base, and it is now at the center of the biggest UAP story in months. According to an FBI report released by the Trump administration in May, the incident was documented in detail, including by a senior U.S. intelligence official who was a passenger in the helicopter. Now, for the first time, the people who lived through that night might sit down in front of Congress and tell the whole country what they saw. On camera. Under oath.

A Congressman Says the Witnesses Could Testify Publicly

The push is coming from Rep. Eric Burlison of Missouri, one of the lawmakers who has been pressing hardest for government transparency on unidentified anomalous phenomena. In an interview with the New York Post published on October 10, Burlison said he would explore whether the intelligence personnel who witnessed the 2025 orb encounter could testify publicly before Congress.

That would be a remarkable escalation. UAP hearings on Capitol Hill are nothing new, but the witnesses have mostly been retired officials and secondhand sources. These would be current, career intelligence personnel describing something they experienced firsthand, with footage to back it up. One of the witnesses works for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and is a career bureaucrat, not a public figure, which makes the prospect of a public appearance even more striking.

Burlison was careful to note that getting these witnesses on camera is not simple. “There’s some people that are working for the agency that having them come forward publicly may expose other things,” he told the Post. He added that he was happy to look into whether public testimony was possible, and he acknowledged that some of the witnesses have already briefed lawmakers behind closed doors but have not turned over all of the video footage from the encounter.

The Footage Nobody Has Seen

Here is the detail that keeps me coming back to this story: there is video, and almost nobody outside the government has watched it.

According to the Post, the witnesses have not shared all of the video footage recorded during the encounter. Avi Loeb, the Harvard astrophysicist who leads the Trump-created UAP Scientific Advisory Council, told the Post he has not seen any of the footage. Think about that. The head of the government’s own scientific advisory council on UAPs has not been shown the tape of what may be the best-documented encounter on record.

What is on the tape matters because the written accounts are extraordinary on their own. Two government documents released under the president’s UAP disclosure initiative describe the encounters. One is an FBI 302 interview with a senior intelligence official, and the other is a firsthand narrative written by the official who was in the helicopter, as detailed in the released government documents. Together they describe a government team investigating unusual noises and UAP sightings in and around a sensitive military testing site in the western United States. One rendering based on the witness descriptions shows the orbs beneath the helicopter; another, based on a federal law enforcement special agent’s account, shows the encounter from a different angle. The exact base, town, mountain range, and coordinates remain hidden, which is probably the only reason we are getting this much at all.

A Hearing in November? The Timing Is Real

The testimony idea is landing at a moment when Capitol Hill is already warming up for another round of UAP hearings. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer has said he wants to revive plans for a hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena after a September proposal fell victim to changes in the congressional calendar. Speaking to Ask a Pol outside the Capitol in September, Comer said organizers had been aiming for the third week of September before the schedule collapsed. “Well, they keep canceling days on us,” he said. “So we’ll, we’ll try to pick it back up in November.”

Comer described the post-election lame duck session as the likely window. “I’d like to have another one. I think there’s demand for it,” he said, while admitting that neither the topic nor the witness lineup had been settled. He pointed detailed questions toward Burlison, Rep. Tim Burchett, and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, calling Burlison the one most across the details: “Burlison more than anybody.”

So the pieces are genuinely on the board: a chairman who wants a hearing, a November window, and a fresh set of firsthand witnesses with video that even the government’s own scientists have not seen. It is easy to see why “UAP” shot to the top of trending US searches. This is the rare UFO story where the next step is concrete and scheduled, not another decade of rumors.

Why This Could Actually Be Different

I have watched the UAP beat for a while now, and most stories collapse into the same frustrating pattern. Somebody claims something astonishing, the evidence stays classified, and everyone goes home hungry. Three things make this one feel different.

First, the witnesses are not whistleblowers with an axe to grind. They are career intelligence officials who reported what they saw through official channels. Second, the documentation is unusually thorough: an FBI 302 interview, a firsthand narrative, and digital renderings released by the government itself. Third, the footage exists. Grainy or not, partial or not, there is video from the helicopter, and the simple question of whether Congress gets to see it is the kind of concrete fight that produces real answers.

That said, skepticism is still the right default. A public hearing with these witnesses is being “explored,” not announced. Intelligence agencies have good reasons, and plenty of bad ones, for keeping identities and footage under wraps. And the most sensational detail in the reports, the claim that smaller objects emerged from a giant “mothership” orb, comes from accounts that have not been independently corroborated. It deserves to be treated as a claim, not a conclusion.

What to Watch Next

If you want to follow this story, here is the short list that actually matters:

  • Burlison’s next move: whether he formally requests the witnesses’ appearance or secures their identities for a closed session first.
  • The November calendar: whether Comer locks in a hearing date during the lame duck session, and whether the agenda names the orb encounter.
  • The footage: whether any of the video gets declassified, shown in a hearing, or described on the record by someone who has watched it.
  • The scientists: whether Avi Loeb and the UAP Scientific Advisory Council get access to the material they say they have not seen.

For now, the honest summary is this: some of the most credible witnesses in the history of the UAP debate watched something inexplicable happen to their helicopter, filmed it, reported it through the system, and Congress is now talking seriously about putting them on camera. Whatever those orbs were, the era of nobody asking questions about them is clearly over. Follow more of our technology and US news coverage for the next chapter of this story.
